If you google the meaning of self-Driven, adjective 2 states:
‘Motivated to do or achieve something because of one’s own enthusiasm or interest.
Then in speech marks underneath it reads.
“a self-driven professional with a proven success rate.”
SUCCESS! Is the key word here. Why? Well to be successful at anything you must be self-driven. Fitness and health are no exception to this, it’s your self-drive that will get you to where you want to be.
But surely! as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor it doesn’t make sense for me to be promoting self-driven behaviour, that’s what people pay me for, right! to motivate.
The truth is, I depend on this behaviour within my clients, it’s their self-drive and determination to succeed that will determine whether my fitness programmes and routines achieve results or not. As a fitness professional with years of experience I can give advice, teach technique, support, and encourage. But ultimately it boils down to the individual and their self-drive to keep consistent and most importantly spending the required amount of time on achieving their goals.
I read a post that said, “I am a runner because I run, not because I run fast. Not because I run far. I am a runner because I say I am.” Sorry I can’t give credit to the writer; I don’t know who wrote it. It got me thinking though. It’s completely true you are what you do. You must get up every morning and become what you want to be. It’s going to be hard; it may hurt sometimes; it will take time and dedication. You must make daily healthier decisions which require sacrifices and willpower whilst facing temptation, but! it will be worth it.
Most of us fail in losing weight, getting fitter or reaching our goals because we can lack persistence, give up too soon. This is because sometimes we only see the whole mountain to climb instead of the staircase. We compare ourselves to others, the experts with years of experience or the model on a glossy cover. We should be thinking only about our own progress. Can I run two seconds faster than I did the day or week before, can I lift an extra kg today than I did yesterday. We can all be guilty of feeding ourselves with negative feedback “why bother you will never be as good”, “I’m fat, Ugly, rubbish” INSTEAD OF “I will get better”, “I will lose weight, get fitter and healthier.” It’s our mindset that drives us and it’s our mindset that affects our success rate.
